As many of you know I dealt with 3 miscarriages prior to my two full term pregnancies. When I found out what was keeping me from growing my babies I was kinda shocked at how simple and common it was. I knew that my hormones were not severely imbalanced and I didn't have any issues getting pregnant, but I would miscarry every time. Since finding out what I am dealing with I have heard from more and more women who have had entirely healthy pregnancies and then all of a sudden have multiple miscarriages. We all have something in common and if you are having this issue you may want to talk to your doctor about it.
Hypercoagulation is when your body's natural clotting abilities are in hyperdrive causing you to form clots too easily. This is an issue in early pregnancy as your baby's brain stem is formed by many capillaries coming together. Obviously I am oversimplifying but, the issue is when your blood clots too fast these capillaries can not properly form, therefore the brain stem doesn't form. Your body may abort your baby because it knows the baby is already brain dead.
Last week we looked into how Insulin is being over produced in the average American's body. We also saw that Insulin affects almost all areas of health and this week we are going to take the next step. How does Insulin and Insulin Resistance affect our gut health.
it seems like gut health is finally making a deserved debut in the popular health circles. I am sooooo glad for this! People need to know how they can forever alter or improve their health with helping or hurting their gut.
What is the "gut"? Most commonly when someone is referring to your "gut" or "gut health" they are talking about part of your digestive system. Specifically, your colon, large intestine, and small intestine.
Dr. Rosedale said it simply,
if you are a busy mama like me then you know we don't have time for hundreds of different herbal concoctions to try and help mitigate various health symptoms that we have. While it is fun to experiment with different herbal and alternative health remedies, when it comes time, I want to simply and efficiently address the root of different health issues that I struggle with. I believe that the "natural medicine" route can be simplified.
Addressing Insulin "cuts to the chase" in the quest for health merry-go-round.
Miscarriages affect 1 in 4 women. Besides the devastation of not being able to have a child, there is also frustration. For myself, after recurring miscarriages, I started to blame my body for not doing its job. After all, what other purpose do we have this womb for, but to protect and cultivate a life?
Number one, it's not your fault. Do not blame yourself. It will only result in negative feelings toward your body and will not help the situation. Secondly, I learned that many reasons for multiple miscarriages are not spoken of or researched nearly enough. No one tells you that it may just be genetic, that can be fixed with simple addition of supplements. Seriously! (More on the MTHFR gene to come.)
What I want you to walk away with is this, there is hope. Don't give up. The fact that you are reading this article is proof enough that you are searching for answers. It is hard to research for answers that may seem impossible to find. Our medical understanding of the body continues to grow and evolve. So we must grow and learn.
Some of the topics that I started researching were: "MTHFR Defect", "Blood Sugar and Infertility", "Nutrition Before Pregnancy", and "Folic Acid vs Methyl Folate". This is another journey in life. Look at it as an opportunity to a whole new side of health and wellness. Because like it or not, the condition our bodies are in can play a big role in our pregnancies. Stay posted, in the coming months I will be talking about what I did to change my health and the research I found on multiple miscarriages.
If you have struggled with infertility or pregnancy loss in the past and would like to share your story in the comments below, please do so. Stories of triumph and victory are a wonderful inspiration, I would love to hear from you!!
Hey guys, I know I have been very absent from the blogging community for a long time because of my pregnancy and new baby. Skye London has been the greatest blessing and challenge that I could ever ask for. I am so excited to start on this mommy journey and I want to share with you all a little bit of what I learned about health before and during pregnancy. As well as share the health journey I am on now postpartum. :) Thank you for hanging with me through my time of silence it is good to be back!!
There is a battle going on in your body right now whether you know it or not! It is a battle between good and bad. It is waged by bacteria in the gut. In this story, bad usually wins and it is called Candida Overgrowth.
Just ask Lori Harrison, her brother died at the age of 28 from Candida Overgrowth. This is as serious as it gets! The battle starts out as a small schoolyard fight in our body's as children who eat too much sugar every now and then at Grandma's. Then we take an antibiotic when we get sick, and the fight then looks like a mugging. After years and years of a average American diet the enemy has conquered and our body is left in the dust to crawl along until death takes us.
You don't think I'm serious? How many of these symptoms do you have?
If you are female past the age of 15, you probably have looked at your reflection, at least once in your life, and asked yourself, "What is WRONG with me?" The answer is always simple, "Ohhhhh,,,,,,it's that time of the month, yikes!" We've all had those moments, some of us deny it more vehemently, but that's okay, it's just part of the coping process. ;)
Good news is, you don't have to feel that way all the time! You can feel normal!
I have struggled with strong hormonal shifts through dealing with my miscarriages, especially with my last one. I was like a cat that was walking a phone line while getting electrocuted. But it has calmed down. I know you're thinking that those herbs must have made me crazy, but really, it is possible to be a well-balanced human being!
The Horribly Sweet Enemy
First thing first, the sugar has got to go. I know, it sounds horrible, and it feels horrible, but did you know, that you can have a sugar addiction. Go ahead, deny that as well, (I would NEVER keep a hidden stash of dark chocolate, who me, no!) but the truth is the truth. In order for your body to calm the raging storm you have to start with the sugar.
Sugar causes the body to secrete insulin and insulin is the master hormone in the body. When your insulin levels go too high it throws off all the other hormones in the body....Stimulants like refined sugars and coffee tax the adrenals. When you eat refined sugars they spike your blood sugar, as a result your body compensates by bringing it back down to size. Coffee and refined sugars give us a false sense of energy. Adrenal fatigue can cause hormonal imbalance, which causes mood swings. source
With an active husband, who loves volleyball, Deep Liniment Oil is a staple in our home. So without further to-do;
DIY Liniment Oil
What You Will Need:
How To Use:
Rub a generous amount of oil on the affected area. For best results, accompany with a light massage to help break up any inflammation or acid in the tissues or muscles.
Note: Do not apply this oil to broken skin or a joint that may be out of socket.
Why Those Herbs?
You are like me, I like to know exactly what each herb does in a recipe, so far all you herb junkies, here you go!
Arnica: This little flower is extremely anti-inflammatory and has traditionally been used as a salve all by itself for children, on small bruises and bumps through all those childhood mishaps. But it is also incredibly powerful at relieving pain in the joints, muscles, and can even relieve arthritis.
Cayenne: Cayenne pepper, whenever I even think about it, the thought makes my nose itch. Too many times of accidently sniffing it. However, cayenne is excellent for increasing circulation in the muscles; which speeds up the healing process. It also metabolizes the other herbs to help the work better together.
St. John’s Wort: Has been used for years as an anti-inflammatory for sprains, strains, muscle cramps, and tension. It relaxes the muscles and soothes inflamed tissues. You can even drink St John’s Wort in a tea to help bring down inflammation.
Calendula: Is one of my absolute favorite herbs! Not only is it fabulous at healing skin externally, but it is great for reducing inflammation. So of course I had to add it into the mix!
Comfrey Leaf: Comfrey is known as a bone healer, but it is also fantastic for healing torn or stretched ligaments and muscles. Don’t use comfrey on a wound that is not properly set of cleaned, as it is so quick, it will heal right over a broken bone or infection.
Lobelia: Last but NOT least is Lobelia! This simple herb is an incredibly strong relaxant! And that is its purpose in this salve. It helps relieve tension from the muscles which helps all the other herbs do their job better.
And there you go! You’ve got an amazing herbal mix so that you can make your own Deep Liniment Oil, without breaking the bank. Enjoy!
I love arts and crafts, especially those that are simple and easy to make, are all-natural, and as an added bonus are relaxing and enjoyable with kids! These earth paints, made with Lavender, would be fantastic to use right before naptime, or add some Peppermint to help your kiddos to focus throughout the day.
I felt like a little kid again as I mixed and matched and painted away!
